The first week sets the tone for everything. Keep it boring — in the best way. Same rooms, same routine, same calm voice, and your puppy will settle in days rather than weeks.

Nights: close, not lonely

Set the crate or bed in your bedroom for the first nights. A puppy that can hear you breathe learns that nights are safe, and you'll hear the early-morning wriggle that means "toilet, please". Most Alderbrook pups sleep through within a fortnight.

Routine is a love language. Predictable days make confident dogs.

Days: naps are non-negotiable

Young puppies need 18–20 hours of sleep. Enforce naps in the crate after every hour of play, feed three small meals at the same times daily, and take them out after waking, eating, playing — and every hour in between.

The first vet visit

Book your own vet within the first week, bringing the health record we gave you. Ask about the vaccination schedule, microchip registration and flea and worming dates — all written in your puppy pack.

And remember: our number is in your phone. No question is too small in week one — that is what we are here for. Call us any time.
